10 QUESTIONS FOR A JEEPNEY BARKER

Meet JUN-JUN (left), a young jeepney barker.
QUESTION 1: Ilang taon ka na? (How old are you?)
JUN-JUN: Ten. (Ten.)
QUESTION 2: Matagal ka na ba nagtratrabaho bilang barker? (Did you work as a barker for a long time already?)
JUN-JUN: Kakasimula ko pa lang po. Nagsimula ako nung nine years-old po ako. (I just started when I was nine years-old.)
QUESTION 3: Nag-aaral ka ba? (Do you go to school?)
JUN-JUN: Hindi na po. Tumigil na. Nahihirapan po kasi sila nay at tay sa pagpapaaral sa aming magkakapatid. (Not anymore. I already stopped. My parents are having a difficult time sending me and my siblings to school.)
QUESTION 4: Lahat kayong magkakapatid huminto na sa pag-aaral? (You and all of your siblings stopped receiving formal education?)
JUN-JUN: Yung kuya ko na lang po. Siya po ung panganay. (My eldest brother still goes to school. He is the first born.)
QUESTION 5: Anong grade ka tumigil? (At what grade level did you stop?)
JUN-JUN: Grade 5. (Grade 5.)

Philippine Independence Day.

We will rise up above this national tragedy.

While it was tragic and a lot of things have to be learned and internalized, let’s also realize that every country screws up big time at one time or another. China had melamin deaths, Tienanmen, etc.. The US has had its massacres too that police could not prevent. So have Israel, France, Mexico—everyone. We are not an exception.

Let’s not beat ourselves up so much that we do lose hope. The thing to do is to make sure it does not happen again. We have too many things going for us as a people. We will learn and we will move on to do better things that will give us a collective sense of pride.

Pinoy Tumblr.: Why?→

Why?

Why is it that of all countries in the world, palagi na lang Pilipinas ang iniinsulto?

Anong bang meron sa atin na wala ang ibang bansa?

Ngayon, pati ang pambansang kamao, target ng some unknown radio host na obviously nakuha na ang kanyang 15 minutes of fame.

Let me remember kung ano na…

Well, it maybe because we have many OFWs working as either DHs or Nurses. I am not saying that being a DH or a nurse is a bad thing, it’s just that, most of us want to be rich quickly that we forget that we have our own paths to take in life. Our doctors became nurses and the other students have flocked to different universities to study nursing. We are not all made to be nurses or DHs. If we say that we are not a NATION OF SERVANTS or we are not just mail-order brides, we really should prove them that we are something else. We keep on talking and arguing and complaining about what they say about us but we lack the credentials to prove them wrong. Be the best in your field so that they’ll know that we really have something to be proud of, other than Mr. Manny Pacquiao.

RIZAL IS A RENAISSANCE MAN.→

pinoytumblr:

According to Wikipedia, a Renaissance man or polymath is someone “with superior intelligence, whose expertise spans a significant number of different subject areas.” Likewise, a polymath “may simply be someone who is very knowledgeable.”

Alam naman nating mga Pilipino na napakatalino talaga ni Rizal pero maganda pa rin na makitang kabilang siya sa mga Renaissance men (right there with Newton, da Vinci, Michelangelo, Imhotep and many others).
